Key Ring

Posted by Craftip (Mar 13, 2014)

I made a piece of work which lets you enjoy its aging, using Hermann Oak Leather and brass parts.

1.

Cut off all the parts.
Then apply neatsfoot oil.

2.

Put hanging clips on the dee ring.

3.

Do thinning of the leather part for the buckle.

4.

Fasten the parts with rivets.

5.

Fasten the parts for the belt in the same way.

6.

Each part is now completed.

7.

Put the main part through the dee ring.

8.

Looks like this.

9.

Engrave ditches for stitching.

10.

Open holes with a diamond hole chisel, but don't make complete holes. Hit the chisel in the way that you can see the spots. The smaller the holes, the nicer your work looks.

11.

Looks like this.

12.

Paste the bond on the backside surface. I used quick-drying bond for woodwork.

13.

Wait until it dries.

14.

Now open the holes one by one with a diamond awl. This is the first time all holes go through.

The thing I placed underneath is not a cork, but is called a lion board. It can last long without dregs. It has the same effect as felt, and placing it under a rubber board is good, I think.

15.

Now it's ready to start sewing. I used sinew thread.

16.

Stitching.

17.

I use these for my pinky to tighten the thread with my pinky.

18.

Treating edges. I used a smoothing plane, a dresser, and a file for pretreatment.

19.

Polish the leather with gum tragacanth and such. I used a loofah.
